F.A.Q.

Question: What kind of batteries can be used with these engines?
Answer: Deep cycle 6 volt golf cart batteries are extremely        compatible, but large 3.500 pound batteries can also be used.

Question: Where can these batteries be purchased?
Answer: The deep cycle 6 volt golf cart batteries can be found at Sam’s Club for approximately $42.50. The big, big, big 3,500 pound batteries can be purchased through one of our sources in Chattanooga, TN.

Question: Where do I buy extra part for my Chugger Engine?
Answer: We keep a large inventory of parts for all our engines.

Question: Which engines are better to power a home with?
Answer: The horizontal Chugger engines are more suitable to power homes because they do not require you to turn the compression release to start them like the verticle Chugger 12 and the LT models.

Question: What HP do I need to power my home?
Answer: Just a quick formula; when using a gas engine you need twice the HP than the kilowatts. With a diesel engine you need 1 1/2 times the HP than the kilowatts. Example: An 8kw home needs 16hp gas of 12 diesel engine.

Question:  Will these start in cold weather?
Answer: These engines will start at temperatures down to approximately freezing, but should start in colder weather with some ether. We suggest that when using these engines with a generator to power a home that you put them in an insulated building or room. Many of our friends have one of these engines with a generator in a small insulated building with an exhaust pipe beside their home. This is an extremely effective way to power a home both long and short term.

Question: What is the noise level of the water cooled diesel engines compared to the air cooled diesels?
Answer: The water cooled China diesels are loud, but quieter compared to the air cooled China diesels of similar size.  The air cooled fins and relatively thin cylinder walls seem to amplify the Diesel noise.

Question: I thought the EPA exemption regarding imported diesels was over in 1999?
Answer: The EPA diesel exhaust exemptio continies for stationary engines. Otherwise, essentially all internal combustion engines down to a very small size are regulated.

Question:  I see only single cylinder engines on this site; do you have twin cylinders?  If so, what is the cost?
Answer: We do have some twin cylinder engines, but do not advertise them, because we do not have as many as single cylinders. If you are interested in a twin cylinder, please email us at chuggerdiesel@dnet.net.  The approximate cost for a twin cylinder is 60% more than the price for the same size single cylinder engine.

Question: What cools the Chugger 20?
Answer: The Chugger 20 is cooled by a hopper (no condenser). It may be easily converted toa  water barrel for thermo siphon cooling. I am told by the factory that this size engine would overwhelm cooling capacity of the fan-blown condenser.

Question: If I buy two engines, will I get a discount?
Answer: No; our listing price on these engines are our absolute bottom line price, therefore we have left no room for negotiating price.

Question: Do you have any pumps or generator heads that will work with the LT Engines?
Answer: We have generator heads?

Question: Is there any difference other than governed speed in the LT6, LT8, and LT10?
Answer: The only other difference in these engines besides governed speed is the flywheel size.
